Plan a Nepal visa extension, transfer or eligible conversion, prevent overstay, understand tourist stay limits and respond safely to expiry or immigration compliance issues.

छिटो जवाफ
Apply for an eligible Nepal visa extension before expiry, confirm the category-specific stay and supporting approvals, and seek prompt advice if status has expired; paying a late fee does not necessarily cure unauthorised work or another compliance breach.
Visa expiry is a legal deadline, not a reminder to begin gathering documents. Review the passport, visa category, total stay, permitted activity and every supporting recommendation well before the last valid day.
Apply for an eligible extension before expiry through the current Department of Immigration process. Tourist extensions remain subject to the annual tourist-stay ceiling. Non-tourist, business, study and working renewals usually require still-valid sponsor, recommendation, permit, tax or institutional records. If status has already expired, stop unauthorised activity, preserve records and obtain advice promptly; paying a fine does not automatically resolve every breach.
Check the category, issue date, valid-until date, entries, passport number and any conditions. Distinguish visa validity from the separate validity of a passport, work permit, labour approval, admission, company recommendation or employment contract.
Record travel and extensions. Do not calculate the stay from memory or a flight itinerary.
The Department currently states that tourist visas may be extended within Nepal subject to a total of 150 tourist days in a visa year, meaning 1 January through 31 December. Current minimum extension periods, daily fees, late charges and nationality exceptions should be checked on the official page at the time of filing.
An extension only extends the authorised tourist stay. It does not convert tourism status into permission to work.
Business renewal may require current company, industry, investment, tax-clearance, monitoring and progress records. Working renewal may require a valid employment relationship, labour permission, recommendation and tax compliance. Study, relationship, press, NRN and other categories have their own continuing eligibility evidence.
If the legal basis has ended, renewal may be inappropriate. Consider cancellation, departure or another route only where conversion is legally available.
Conversion is not a universal right. Eligibility depends on the existing status, requested category, supporting recommendation and current procedure. An online form or a pending application does not authorise the new activity.
Obtain advice before changing purpose, employer, institution, family basis or investment structure. The correct solution may be a conversion, cancellation and fresh application, or departure and re-entry.
A visa may need transfer when a passport is renewed, replaced, lost, stolen or damaged. Keep copies of the old passport and visa. For loss or theft, preserve the police report, arrival evidence and new passport records required by the Department.
Do not travel or file other applications assuming the visa automatically moved to the new passport.
Overstay begins when a foreign national remains beyond the authorised period without a valid extension or other status. Unauthorised work or activity can be a separate problem even while a visa date appears valid.
Consequences can include visa and late fees, investigation, cancellation, detention or departure measures, restrictions and difficulty with future applications depending on the facts and law. The current fee page publishes tourist late charges, but a complex case should never be reduced to a simple online fine calculation.
1. Stop work or other activity that may be unauthorised. 2. Preserve passport, visa, entry, application, payment and communication records. 3. Calculate dates accurately and identify the reason for expiry. 4. Do not submit a false date, explanation or backdated document. 5. Contact the Department or obtain Nepal immigration legal advice promptly. 6. Follow the lawful regularisation, payment, cancellation or departure direction. 7. Retain official receipts and the final immigration record.
Urgent legal review is especially important where there is a notice, police contact, missing passport, disputed employment, sponsor withdrawal, alleged unauthorised work or inability to depart.
Employers, educational institutions, companies and sponsors should maintain expiry registers and report or coordinate changes where required. They should not retain a foreign national's passport improperly or continue work after permission expires.
Calendar each dependency separately: passport, visa, labour permit, recommendation, employment agreement, company tax clearance and professional licence. One valid document does not extend another.
- 90 days before expiry: confirm continuing eligibility and corporate or sponsor compliance. - 60 days before expiry: begin recommendations, permits, tax clearance and supporting records. - 30 days before expiry: reconcile the complete file and submit when the official process permits. - after submission: keep proof, but do not assume pending status authorises work or stay beyond the existing visa. - after issue: verify every date, category, entry facility and passport number.
These are risk-management targets, not official processing guarantees.
- treating a portal receipt as an approved extension; - counting only the latest tourist visa instead of annual total stay; - waiting for the last day; - continuing work while a work visa or permit is pending or expired; - hiding a previous overstay or refusal; - assuming a new passport carries the old visa automatically; and - paying an unofficial intermediary without a government receipt.
